the viaduct scene: winter 1986

July 1986: A cold winter night down at the Western Viaduct in Auckland.





The refloated Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior awaiting her one way trip to Matauri Bay. This was a year after l'affaire Greenpeace began. The convicted DGSE agents Captain Prieur and Commander Mafart were about to leave New Zealand to serve their sentences on Hao Atoll.

cracking through the walls: siouxsie & the banshees 1983



Siouxsie & the Banshees at Mainstreet, Auckland, February 14 1983.


The sweat poured off Steve Severin and down his bass. This was one of the hottest concerts I have ever been to. The walls and ceiling of Mainstreet were literally dripping wet.


Robert Smith of The Cure made a low key appearance as the Banshee's guitarist.
